Xiaomi Expands Watch S5 Lineup With a Smaller 41mm Model and Wild Transparent Edition

Xiaomi is suddenly giving shoppers a lot more choice in the Watch S5 family.

Alongside its latest product launches in China, the company has introduced two very different additions to the lineup: the Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm, a smaller and more elegant smartwatch aimed at people who find 46mm watches too bulky, and the Xiaomi Watch S5 Transparent Edition, a much flashier limited-edition model with a 47mm case and transparent styling.

The standard Watch S5 41mm is arguably the more important launch. Xiaomi has managed to squeeze a bright 1.32-inch AMOLED display, built-in GPS and claimed battery life of up to 14 days into the smaller chassis. The Transparent Edition, meanwhile, looks more like Xiaomi showing off what it can do with industrial design.

Xiaomi Watch S5 41mm finally gives the S5 a smaller option

Until now, the Xiaomi Watch S5 lineup has largely revolved around the bigger 46mm Watch S5. The new 41mm version fills an obvious gap for users who prefer a smaller smartwatch or simply don’t want a large circular case taking over their wrist.

The Watch S5 41mm uses a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a 466 × 466 resolution, while Xiaomi is claiming peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits. That’s a substantial jump over the previous Watch S4 41mm, which topped out at 1,500 nits.

The body itself weighs around 36g and is approximately 9.9mm thick, according to Xiaomi launch information. That should make it noticeably easier to wear overnight than many larger premium smartwatches.

Xiaomi is offering several finishes including Black, Sea Salt Blue and Taro Purple, along with a more expensive Ceramic White version.

The battery upgrade might be the biggest surprise

Small watches normally come with an unavoidable compromise: battery life.

Xiaomi appears determined to avoid that.

The Watch S5 41mm is rated for up to 14 days of battery life, backed by a reported 590mAh battery. That’s particularly notable when you consider that Xiaomi’s previous 41mm Watch S4 was rated for only up to eight days under lighter usage.

Of course, those are manufacturer estimates. Features such as GPS tracking, continuous health monitoring and an always-on display can reduce real-world endurance substantially.

Still, even if the Watch S5 41mm falls short of the full 14-day claim, the battery specification makes it one of the more interesting compact smartwatch launches we’ve seen recently.

HyperOS 4 and health tracking are also onboard

The new model launches with HyperOS 4 and supports both Android and iOS smartphones.

Xiaomi is also highlighting health and lifestyle features including heart-rate tracking, exercise guidance, menstrual-cycle monitoring, dietary calorie management and UV-intensity information. Built-in GPS means outdoor activities can also be recorded without relying entirely on a connected phone.

For anyone comparing it with Xiaomi’s cheaper fitness trackers, this is clearly positioned as the more premium, traditional-watch-style option.

Then there’s the Xiaomi Watch S5 Transparent Edition

If the 41mm version is about practicality, the Watch S5 Transparent Edition is basically Xiaomi having some fun.

The special-edition model increases the case diameter to 47mm, compared with 46mm on the regular Watch S5, and uses a transparent middle frame combined with a stainless-steel bezel. Xiaomi has also equipped it with its Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0, which is intended to improve scratch resistance.

Visually, it is designed to expose more of the watch’s internal aesthetic rather than hiding everything inside a conventional metal enclosure.

And it really is limited. Xiaomi says only 5,000 units will be produced.

That makes a broad international launch look unlikely.

Price and Canadian availability

The Watch S5 41mm starts at CNY 1,299, while the Ceramic White version costs CNY 1,499. At current exchange rates, that’s roughly CA$273 and CA$315 respectively before taxes, import costs or any regional price adjustments.The Transparent Edition is considerably more expensive at CNY 2,499, equivalent to roughly CA$526 at the time of writing.

Those conversions shouldn’t be treated as Canadian launch prices.

Xiaomi has not announced Canadian pricing or availability for either model yet. The regular 46mm Watch S5 has already expanded beyond China, so a wider release of the 41mm version remains possible. The 5,000-unit Transparent Edition is much less likely to travel far beyond Xiaomi’s home market.
