The Huawei Watch D3 combines genuine cuff-based blood pressure monitoring with 24-hour ABPM, ECG and a slimmer design. Here's what it gets right — and why Canadian availability remains uncertain.

out of 5

What stands out

  • Real cuff-based blood pressure monitoring: The strap physically inflates instead of relying purely on optical estimation.
  • 24-hour ABPM: Automatic daytime and overnight measurements provide much more useful BP trend data than occasional spot checks.
  • Promising accuracy: Independent testing found relatively small differences compared with dedicated blood-pressure monitors.
  • Much slimmer design: The 11.3 mm case is noticeably thinner than the 13.3 mm Watch D2.
  • Excellent AMOLED display: The 1.92-inch screen reaches a claimed 3,000-nit peak brightness.
  • Strong everyday battery: Huawei claims up to six days without continuous ABPM.
  • Broader health tracking: ECG, HRV, SpO₂, temperature, sleep and arrhythmia features complement BP monitoring.

Pros

  • Excellent cuff-based blood-pressure system
  • 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring

Before you buy

  • ABPM crushes battery life: Continuous ambulatory monitoring drops the quoted battery life to roughly one day.
  • Swimming is basically off the table: Despite IP68 protection, Huawei specifically tells users not to swim or shower with it.
  • Still bulkier than normal smartwatches: The inflatable cuff adds hardware that ordinary watches simply do not need.
  • Limited third-party app ecosystem: HarmonyOS cannot compete with Apple Watch or Wear OS for app selection.
  • Canadian availability is unclear: Huawei Canada acknowledges the D3 in its support system, but we could not find a Canadian product/store listing or CAD MSRP.

Huawei Watch D3 Review: The Best Blood Pressure Smartwatch Gets Better

Most smartwatches can monitor your heart rate. Some can record an ECG. A growing number even attempt to provide information related to blood pressure.

Huawei Watch D3 does something different: it actually inflates around your wrist.

Hidden inside its strap is a miniature mechanical airbag that uses oscillometric measurement to take blood-pressure readings. It’s effectively squeezing technology normally associated with a dedicated BP monitor into something you can wear all day.

And with Huawei D3, Huawei has made that unusual concept significantly easier to live with.

Blood pressure remains the star

Huawei D3 can take individual blood-pressure readings or run 24-hour ambulatory blood-pressure monitoring, automatically recording measurements throughout the day and while you sleep.

Independent testing has been promising. Notebookcheck compared the D3 with dedicated Braun and Omron monitors and found relatively small differences in its tests, although the publication correctly notes that those comparisons aren’t a substitute for clinical validation.

Huawei also lets you measure BP before and after selected workouts, adding another useful tool for people actively monitoring cardiovascular health.

Smaller changes make a big difference

Huawei Watch D2 proved the concept worked, but it was still chunky.

Huawei has reduced the D3’s advertised case thickness from 13.3 mm on the D2 to 11.3 mm, while increasing the AMOLED display from 1.82 to 1.92 inches. Peak brightness climbs to a claimed 3,000 nits.

Those changes sound minor until you remember this is a watch designed to be worn overnight. Anything that makes it less noticeable on the wrist matters.

It’s more than a blood-pressure monitor

Huawei D3 also tracks heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen, temperature and sleep. There’s a single-lead ECG, arrhythmia analysis, built-in GPS, more than 100 workout modes and Bluetooth calling.

Battery life is another strength. Huawei claims up to six days during normal use, while The Register achieved around five days during testing.

Enable aggressive 24-hour ABPM, however, and battery life drops to roughly one day.

There are compromises

The biggest oddity is water resistance.

Huawei D3 carries an IP68 rating, yet Huawei says not to swim, shower or participate in prolonged water activities while wearing it. That’s difficult to ignore on a modern fitness watch.

HarmonyOS also lacks the third-party app ecosystem available on Apple Watch and Wear OS devices. The D3 works perfectly well for notifications, calls and Huawei’s built-in features, but apps aren’t its strength.

And then there’s availability.

Huawei D3 launches in the UK on September 23 for £399.99, but Huawei has not announced Canadian pricing or an official Canadian retail launch as of September 20.

Huawei Canada’s support pages already recognize the model, but Canadian buyers may need to wait to see whether that turns into an actual local release.

Nerdfuse Take

The Huawei Watch D3 isn’t trying to beat the Apple Watch at apps or Garmin at hardcore sports tracking.

It’s built around one unusually ambitious idea: putting a genuine blood-pressure cuff on your wrist without making you feel like you’re wearing medical equipment.

Huawei has now refined that concept into a thinner, brighter and more comfortable watch while keeping the impressive BP technology that made the D series special.

For anyone who considers blood-pressure monitoring one of their most important wearable features, the Watch D3 belongs near the top of the shortlist.

For everyone else, cheaper and more versatile smartwatches will probably make more sense.

Can the Huawei Watch D3 actually measure blood pressure?

Yes. It contains an inflatable airbag inside the strap and uses oscillometric measurement rather than relying solely on optical sensors.

Does the Huawei Watch D3 monitor blood pressure while sleeping?

Yes. Its ABPM mode can automatically perform blood-pressure measurements during a 24-hour monitoring period, including overnight.

Is the Huawei Watch D3 available in Canada?

Huawei has not announced official Canadian pricing or a Canadian retail launch as of September 20, 2026. Huawei Canada’s support documentation does already reference the Watch D3.

How long does the Huawei Watch D3 battery last?

Huawei advertises up to six days during typical use. With intensive 24-hour ABPM enabled, the quoted figure drops to around one day.

Can you swim with the Huawei Watch D3?

Huawei advises against swimming, showering and prolonged water immersion even though the device has IP68 protection.

Does the Huawei Watch D3 work with iPhones?

Yes. Huawei lists compatibility with both Android and iOS through the Huawei Health app, although individual features can vary by region and phone.

Verdict

Rated Excellent

The Huawei Watch D3 is one of the most convincing health-focused smartwatches available because it actually inflates around your wrist to measure blood pressure rather than simply estimating it optically. The slimmer design, excellent display and strong independent BP results make it an impressive specialist wearable. The big problem for Canadian readers is availability: as of September 20, 2026, Huawei has not announced Canadian pricing or a Canadian retail launch.
