Google is rolling out its September 2026 software update for the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Watch 4, bringing some of the newer Pixel Watch experience to older models.
The biggest addition is Gemini Personalization, which is coming to all three watches. Pixel Watch 3 and 4 owners are also getting more ways to control their watch using Double pinch and Wrist turn gestures, while the Pixel Watch 4 receives an improved Raise to Talk experience.
The update comes with build CP3A.260905.002 for the Pixel Watch 3 and 4, while the Pixel Watch 2 receives CP3A.260905.002.E1.
Gemini gets more personal on Pixel Watch
One of the more interesting additions is Gemini Personalization, which is coming to the Pixel Watch 2, 3 and 4.
Instead of treating every Gemini request independently, Personalization can use information from your previous conversations and connected Google services to provide answers that are more relevant to you.
That includes services such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Search, YouTube and Google Photos.
For example, you could ask Gemini on your watch:
- “What’s on my calendar today?”
- “Find the tracking number in my email.”
That makes Gemini considerably more useful on a watch, where digging through apps or typing long searches isn't exactly ideal.
Pixel Watch 3 and 4 can do more with Double pinch
Google is also expanding its one-handed gesture controls on Pixel Watch 3 and 4.
Double pinch works by tapping your index finger and thumb together twice. Google already supports the gesture for things such as notifications, timers, media controls and Smart Replies on compatible Pixel Watches.
With the September update, the gesture can now be used in more parts of Wear OS.
Pixel Watch 3 and 4 owners can Double pinch to:
- Open At a Glance from the watch face
- Open the notification center
- Scroll through Gemini responses
- Move through cards in Google Wallet
- Scroll through workout metrics
- Switch between Google Maps views
- Control parts of the Recorder app
Google is also expanding Wrist turn so it can work as a universal back gesture.
That last addition could be particularly useful. Instead of reaching for the display every time you want to go back, a quick wrist movement can handle the navigation.
Pixel Watch 4 gets better Raise to Talk
Pixel Watch 4 owners are getting one extra improvement.
Google has updated the gesture model behind Raise to Talk, which lets you bring up Gemini by raising your wrist and speaking without manually opening the assistant.
The change is designed to improve the accuracy and reliability of detecting when you're actually trying to activate Gemini.
Raise to Talk has been one of Google's attempts to make interacting with an AI assistant on a smartwatch feel less like interacting with a tiny phone. Improving the activation gesture could make that experience noticeably less awkward in everyday use.

Google says hand gestures require Pixel Watch 3 or 4 running Wear OS 6.1 or later, along with updated watch apps.

The update may not appear on every watch at exactly the same time.
To manually check:

Google recommends keeping your Pixel Watch on its charger, connected to Wi-Fi and charged to at least 50% when installing an update.

Is the September Pixel Watch update worth getting excited about?
It's not a giant redesign, but this is one of those updates where the smaller changes could matter more than they initially sound.
The expanded Double pinch support makes one-handed operation genuinely more useful, particularly while walking, exercising or carrying something. Gemini Personalization also gives Google's AI assistant more context without forcing you to dig through Gmail or Calendar on a tiny screen.
And perhaps most importantly, the Pixel Watch 2 is still receiving meaningful new functionality nearly three years after launch. Google's published support schedule guarantees software updates for the Pixel Watch 2 until at least October 2026, Pixel Watch 3 until October 2027 and Pixel Watch 4 until October 2028.

Google doesn't need every Pixel Watch update to introduce a headline feature.
Making gestures work in more places is arguably more useful than adding another standalone app, and Gemini Personalization makes considerably more sense on a watch when it can surface information without requiring much interaction.
For Pixel Watch 3 owners in particular, the September update helps narrow the software gap with Google's newer watches — and you don't need new hardware to get it.
